Crew Leader Volunteer

Reports to: House Leader

Brief Description:
Crew leaders are skilled volunteers who lead small groups on the jobsite to ensure a safe and fun work environment. Crew Leaders are only needed for Saturdays.

Time Commitment:

  • Volunteer a minimum of six (6) Saturdays throughout a build.
  • Houses take anywhere between 12-18 weeks to complete       
  • The townhouses (five houses per building) currently take around 6-8 months to complete

Construction Hours

  • Fall/Winter: 7:30am – 1:30pm
  • Spring/Summer: 6:30am – 12:30pm
  • Crew leaders arrive 30 minutes prior to regular volunteers to assist the house leader prepare work and tools for the day

Skills

  • Demonstrate enough construction knowledge to construction staff; Have enough skill in a particular area of home construction to instruct and supervise a small group (4-8) of unskilled volunteers in the task.
  • Attend the HFHWV Construction Leadership training where you will receive a construction manual, special t-shirt, amongst other tools on how to work with homeowners and volunteers.

House Leader Volunteer

Reports To: HFHWV Site Supervisor(s) and Construction Manager

Brief Description: House Leaders are volunteers who can commit to almost all Saturdays of a build to direct and supervise 2-3 crew leaders and 15-20 unskilled volunteers: House Leaders are an essential part of building the house from start to finish.

Time Commitment
  • Volunteer a minimum of twelve (12) Saturdays throughout a build
  • Houses take anywhere between 12-18 weeks to complete
  • Townhouses currently take around 6-8 months to build
Construction Hours
  • Fall/Winter: 7:30am - 1:30pm
  • Spring/Summer: 6:30am - 12:30pm
  • Crew Leaders arrive 30 minutes prior to regular volunteers to assist the supervisor prepare work and tools for the day
Skills
  • Demonstrate enough construction knowledge to construction staff; Have enough skill and experience to guide crew leaders through most aspects of residential home construction.
  • Have supervisory skills to lead 2-3 crew leaders who lead small groups of 4-8 volunteers
  • Attend the HFHWV Construction Leadership training held annually. Here, you will receive a construction manual, special House Leader t-shirt, amongst other tools on how to work with crew leaders and volunteers.
