Habitat for Humanity believes homeownership is a vital step in creating self-esteem in both families and neighborhoods, and is the most basic way to break successive generations of poverty. While we have transformed the lives of over 210 families in the West Valley, our community’s need for affordable housing is far too large for any one organization to solve.
Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent homes with the help of the soon-to-be homeowner (partner families). Habitat homes are sold to partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build more Habitat for Humanity of the West Valley homes.
Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, partner families invest a minimum of 400 hours of their own labor -- sweat equity -- into building their Habitat home and homes for others. We're a hand up, not a hand out.

The costs of homes vary depending on the size
and type and depending on the housing market.
Habitat homes are affordable for low-income families because there is no profit included in the sale price and no interest charged on the mortgage. Mortgage length varies from seven to 30 years.
How Habitat Homes are built through…
Money raised through the generous contributions of individuals, churches and faith groups, grants, cities, business and organizations.
Generous “in-kind” donations
The time of hundreds of volunteers and the “sweat equity” of the homeowner families.
Our family selection committee chooses homeowners based on their level of need, their willingness to become partners in the program and their ability to repay the no-interest loan.
Habitat for Humanity of the West Valley follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection; neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing the families who receive Habitat homes.
