*Age Policy*

Construction
Safety is our first concern. Our insurance requires that we restrict the activities of volunteers under the age of 18. Below are the highlights of our age policy

• 15 and under: Youth 15 and under are not allowed on the jobsite
  
• 16 - 17: Can participate in construction work, but cannot use power tools, do excavation or demolition, or work on rooftops. Parent/Guardian must sign waiver before youth can start. Groups of volunteers in this age range must provide adult supervision.
• 18+: No restrictions.

Home Improvement Store
Volunteers must be at least 15 years old to volunteer at the store.

Special Events
Depending on the nature of the event, youth (10+) may be able to help with these opportunities. Click here to see what events we have coming up.

Saturday Work Group Lunches:
Groups may decide to prepare and deliver lunch to Saturday work groups. This is a great opportunity for young kids who are not old enough to build. If you have a group interested in providing lunches, please contact Adriane at adriane@hfhwv.org or 623.583.2417.

Rain Policy

Much of our construction can still occur even if there is a light drizzle. However, heavy rain or rain accompanied by lightning is not safe for our volunteers. Habitat’s Director of Construction makes the determination of whether or not to build. Extremely wet conditions may also potentially cancel a build. Some indoor activity may continue despite light rain.

The following guidelines will determine whether or not building is cancelled on your scheduled day:

• Workday Morning - If rain is occurring or imminent at our build sites, a voice message will be recorded on our Volunteer Hotline at 602-262-8679 at least one hour before scheduled build time with an update on build plans.
• Sponsors and Group Leaders building on a Saturday: If by Friday at noon, it is known that heavy rain is expected or if the site is too wet to work on, Volunteer Services will call all group leaders. If you are a group leader, we ask that you call all the volunteers on your sign-up sheet as quickly as possible. You may also share the hotline number as desired.
• Volunteer Services and Construction departments will contact house leaders, team leaders, site hosts and individuals signed up on the general roster and other point people.
• House Leaders and Team Leaders may contact their staff site supervisor for any additional construction related questions.
