What is Habitat for Humanity of the West Valley?

Habitat for Humanity of the West Valley (HFHWV) is a faith-based nonprofit organization that was established in 1985 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. HFHWV is a 501(c)3 organization which partners with low-income families to help them secure a simple, decent place to live. To date HFHWV has led the development of over 210 homes in the West Valley.

Habitat Goals

All of Habitat’s projects have three primary goals. We strive to:

  • Assist a low-income family to achieve the American dream of homeownership.
  • Include the economically disadvantaged as partners in creating solutions to their housing challenges.
  • Contribute to overall revitalization efforts in Maricopa County.

History

Millard and Linda Fuller founded Habitat International in 1976 because they felt it was a shame that even though we live in the richest country in the world, hard-working people could not
afford to buy their own homes. Faith, hard work and dedication set Habitat on its successful
course.

Habitat for Humanity was established in the West Valley of Arizona in 1985 as Maricopa Habitat for Humanity. The name was changed to Habitat for Humanity of the West Valley in 1997. We have recently completed 119 homes in the subdivision, Pueblo Futuro, in El Mirage and are currently building El Amor de Cristo, a 17-unit subdivision in Peoria and Johnson Town Homes, a 48-unit subdivision in Surprise.

Community Partnerships

HFWWV relies on strong community partnerships to achieve its goals, including our partnership with the homeowner families. Area churches, corporate grants, businesses and civic groups also work with us and provide volunteers, cash contributions, professional services and building materials.  Another very important partnership is with Neighborhood Housing Services of Southwestern Maricopa County, which helps prepare clients for homeownership through budget training and homebuyer education.

Who We Serve

HFHWV serves low-income families earning 30-65% of the Area Median Income. Families are accepted to the Habitat program based on their need, ability to pay a 0% interest mortgage, and their willingness to partner. Applicants go through a rigorous application process, as there are many more applicants than available homes. Please click here to learn more about HFHWV application process.

Habitat for Humanity of the West Valley is continuously seeking new partnerships to continue its mission of eliminating poverty housing and to provide affordable housing for families in need. Please contact Habitat for Humanity of the West Valley if you are interested in becoming a partner! (623) 583-2417.
